The template is designed to help students and Student Voice teams develop clear, structured motions. Crucially, it distinguishes between the student body adopting a position or policy; and the students’ union itself committing money, staff time or other resources to support Sus as charities to manage their responsibilities under Charity Law. The shaded opening explainer is internal guidance for the Student Voice team and should be deleted before the template is shared with proposers. The wording may also be adapted for voting materials, published policies or FAQs to manage expectations about what an approved motion does—and does not—require the union to do.
