To celebrate the development and launch of the SU Governance Code, NUS and NCVO are delivering this one day governance development day aimed at Trustees, senior managers and governance staff.
7 July 2026 | Liverpool Guild of Students

Good governance is the backbone of the modern students’ union; with multiple regulators, competing priorities and the challenge of both internal and external scrutiny – Boards need be equipped to face these challenges head-on. At this mini-conference, as well as a stream delivered entirely by NCVO, we will be hosting sessions from across the sector, drawing on trusted consultants and speaking with sector experts to share best practice and provide networking opportunities for external, student and officer trustees, as well as senior leaders and governance managers.
Objectives of the day:
The full agenda will be released shortly. If you are interested in delivering a session or workshop, or have an idea for a session that you would like to see on the agenda, please email emilie.tapping@nus.org.uk.
SU Governance Symposium:
An element of the Governance Symposium will explore the board’s role in actively supporting strong financial, commercial and income-generation strategies. Trade Convention will take that conversation further, bringing trustees and senior leaders together with SU commercial staff to develop those strategies and look at how they can be put into practice.
Trade Convention is free of charge, and includes access to the awards dinner on the 8th of July; a perfect opportunity to network and learn more about the sector. Staying on for the Trade Convention offers a unique opportunity to connect governance thinking with real-world commercial delivery as well as valuable insight into the commercial and trading environment that underpins many strategic decisions. You’re very welcome to attend both events; please note that separate registration is required for each. Use the links above and below to sign up.
