International Activists Network

Following the success of the first International Activists Network, NUS is hosting its second International Activists Network on the 18th January 2016.

The International Activists Network is a unique training and networking opportunity for officers and student activists who define as international (This includes EU and non-EU students). It includes, but also goes beyond, International Students Officers. NUS is calling on sabbatical officers, part-time officers, society leaders and student activists who are interested in developing campaigning skills and knowledge. No matter what your position is, if you are international, you are welcome to join the network.

The NUS International Students Campaign is developing a tailored personal development model that engages with the lived experiences of international students in an environment where your experiences and issues are not side-lined.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Build their knowledge on the current issues that most impact international students from experts in the field.
  • Learn how to campaign, build power and create change on the issues that matter to them the most.
  • Share ideas and experiences in a safe space.
  • Understand the importance of having international activists in influential leadership positions in Students’ Unions and beyond
  • Network with other activists and build solidarity with the national International Students Campaign.

Sessions will include:

  • Understanding immigration restrictions.
  • Developing finance and support for international students.
  • Housing for international students.
  • Supporting asylum seekers and refugees.

Who can attend the event?

This day is open to any student, full-time or part-time officer who defines as international, and who is interested in developing campaigning skills and have active international students’ campaigns in their Students’ Unions and campuses.

How much will it cost?

The event is free, and there is a small number of bursaries available - if you can show your Students’ Union does not have the resources to send their required delegate.
