#GE17 NUS Scotland's manifesto

Ahead of #GE2017 we've brought together an NUS Scotland manifesto. Find out more about our asks below.

In #GE2017, first and foremost we are calling on politicians to listen to the voices of students and young people. We are asking all parties to work to secure a positive future for students and young people in the aftermath of Brexit and ensure that Scotland has a well-funded education system with adequate access to student support.

Life after Brexit: Securing a positive future for students and young people

We're calling for:

- The UK Government to ensure education and funding plays a key role in Brexit negotiations and the Scottish Government is enabled to contribute to these negotiations.

- The UK Government to consult EU and UK students and young people throughout the Brexit negotiations process to inform the UK’s negotiating position.

- The UK Government to make clear to universities how the potential gap in research funding will be plugged.

- The UK and Scottish Governments to work together to provide longer term certainty over funding status for EU students.

- Scottish MPs to call on the UK Government to protect programmes such as Erasmus+ wherever possible.

- Politicians across the UK to work together to ensure that the rise in hate crime in the aftermath of the EU Referendum is challenged and tackled.

Reintroduction of Post-Study Work Visa

We're calling for:

- The UK Government to reintroduce the Post-Study Work Visa to ensure Scotland can continue to attract students from all over the world.

A well-funded education system with adequate access to student support

We're calling for:

- Scottish MPs to work with NUS Scotland and NUS UK to fight against further increases to tuition fees in the rest of the UK, taking into account the knock-on funding impact such increases could have in Scotland.

- Scottish MPs to highlight the employability funding European Structural Funds have brought to Scotland’s colleges and young people and press the UK Government to commit to maintaining or replacing this important funding.

Listening to the voice of students and young people

We're calling for:

- Politicians from Scotland and across the UK to join us in our work to encourage students and young people to register to vote and to think about whether they will need to register at a different address from their term time home.
