The Framework for Partnership with Students offers guidance to students’ unions and higher education providers in how to use their student charter to build and enhance partnership between students and staff.
Student charters set out the different responsibilities of students, providers and the students’ union but it can often be difficult to bring student charters to life as shaping behaviours on campus and enabling students to be partners in learning and in shaping their learning environment.
We recommend that student charters (or partnership agreements, if preferred):
- Make use a of simple cycle of creation, dissemination and review to embed the principles of the charter in institutional practice
- Articulate and create the conditions for students to be partners, based on discussion with students and staff
- Include a programme of dissemination and activity focused on enhancing the learning environment
- Are evaluated on the basis of the extent to which they have supported enhancement and student success
The Student Engagement Partnership, whose expertise we drew on in creating the Framework for Partnership with Students, are available for consultation and support in getting your partnership work off the ground, whatever your institution or students’ union.
