Elections

Every year, our member students’ unions have the opportunity to set the direction through the election of NUS-USI leadership.  This year delegates will elect one full-time officer – the president – as well as three part-time members of the regional executive committee, one member of the NUS UK national executive council to represent NUS-USI, and two student trustees.
You will find information on these positions in the NUS-USI constitution.

The candidates running for election to NUS-USI positions and the NUS-USI 2nd Position on NUS NEC, for the year 2018-2019, are below.

Ron (re-open nominations) will also be a candidate in each election.

Nominations will open at conference for steering committee.

NUS-USI President

This is a full-time paid position based at the NUS-USI office in Belfast.  The president leads NUS-USI in its mission to promote, defend and extend the rights of students, and to develop strong students’ unions.  The NUS-USI leader sits on the National Union of Students (NUS) national executive council as well as the Union of Students in Ireland (USI) national council.

Manifesto Statements

NUS-USI 2nd Position on NUS NEC

Kevin McStravock

Hi folks I’m Kevin McStravock – the current UUSU President and a student trustee for NUS-USI.

Keeping things short and sweet, the reason I’m running for NEC Second Place is because I want to see NUS moving towards better inclusion of the nations - particularly NUS-USI.

I’m fairly pragmatic so don’t intend to shout the odds at meetings but I’m unafraid to speak up when I feel there’s a need for something to be said.

The work of our member unions needs to be better recognized and supported by all NUS officers, not just when it comes to elections.

Hamsavani Rajeswaren

I'm a passionate social justice activist, and have spent my time in the student movement focussing on liberation campaigns. I currently sit on the NUS-USI Women's Committee, as well as on the NUS-USI Engagement Group as the International Rep. I am also the VP Equality & Diversity elect at QUBSU, and work with on the NUS International as well as Black Students' Campaign Committees, as an NI rep. My work reflects the dire need for a more diverse, liberation-focussed voice in our movement. As an international, disabled, woman of colour, I can be this voice.

NUS-USI Welfare Officer

John-Daniel Armstrong

My names JD Armstrong, Vice president of E3 campus at the Belfast Met, currently studying a HND in Broadcast Journalism.
