Update: 24 April 2020

Our number one priority is the health, safety and wellbeing of the students and apprentices we represent, so we have been working closely with institutions, trade unions, national sector bodies like Universities UK and the Association of Colleges, the Student Loans Company, and the government to inform our response to Coronavirus (Covid-19).

Here’s an update of what we are doing on your behalf to ensure your interests are represented as we tackle this pandemic:

  • The Liberal Democrats have called for students from low-income backgrounds to receive maintenance grants during the current crisis, and we have responded with a comment outlining why we believe a hardship fund to be the best approach to ensure all students can receive the support they need

  • MP Paul Blomfield has sent a follow-up letter to the Universities Minister as the original letter sent three weeks ago, that we helped coordinate with 110 MPs calling for action to protect student renters, student workers and provide students with flexibility and choice on examinations, has not been answered.
