Healthcare students in the Coronavirus crisis

In light of the move to escalate final year medical and healthcare students into the NHS workforce to assist during the Coronavirus pandemic, Eva Crossan Jory, NUS Vice President (Welfare), comments:

"We are aware that discussions are ongoing between the government, regulators, professional bodies and healthcare unions regarding final-year medical and healthcare students being fast-tracked into the NHS workforce. NUS want students to be fully supported both financially and professionally and if such a scheme is activated, it should not be mandatory. Any students wishing to take up the scheme, as with all NHS workers, must have complete assurance that they will have full access to suitable protective equipment when carry out their duties."
