Shuwanna Aaron is NUS Scotland's Women's Officer, having previously served as NUS Scotland Black Students' Officer. She studied History at the University of Edinburgh, focusing on Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and the process and legacies of colonialism. As Black Student's Officer her priority was been increasing representation of Black and racialised students as political actors within their students’ associations. Her work has included the successful #ReclaimBlackStories exhibition that has toured students’ associations across Scotland. As a photo-biographic exhibit, #ReclaimBlackStories gives young black people a platform to reclaim the experience of Black people historically by retelling the story according to their experiences and those of their families. As Black Students' Officer Shuwanna also sat on the Race Equality Network.
As Women's Officer, her priorities are to tackle gendered violence and hate crime, to support the development of leadership and representation of women and non-binary students, and to lobby for better provisions for student parents and carers.
