A snap General Election will take place on 8 June 2017. Before then we need to do all we can to make sure the voices of students and young people are heard.
Students and young people need to know that politicians are willing to take action on the issues that impact them. Between now and polling day on 8 June, we'll be working to get students registered to vote and highlight our key demands for students.
There’s still time to get involved with the General Election campaign, make sure that students are registered to vote and lobby candidates. Here’s some ideas to get you started:
- The deadline to register to vote is 22 May! Get registration ready with our key information about how to register to vote including getting a postal vote, voting by proxy and students registering at their home and term-time address in our #GenerationVote page here. Download our Get Registered leaflet here to print and give out to students.
- Organise a voter registration drive for the #GenerationVote week of action starting on Monday 15 May. NUS UK have a limited supply of #GenerationVote tshirts and stickers that you can order from firstname.lastname@example.org. Check out NUS UK's #GenerationVote guide for more ideas for your voter registration drive.
- Get social! Download a #GenerationVote Twibbon for your social media, and our #GenerationVote Facebook cover page. Share our ‘Everything you need to know about the General Election’ article with your students. Make sure to tweet about what you’re doing using #GenerationVote and tagging @NUSScotland.
- Lobby your local candidates by organising a hustings using our downloadable guide or by arranging to meet with Prospective Parliamentary Candidates to discuss the issues facing students or by writing them to raise key issues. Take a look at our #GE17 manifesto page to find out more about the key issues that we’re highlighting in Scotland.
