Ethical Engagement Direction and Oversight Board

NUS Ethical Engagement Direction and Oversight Board

As approved at the Annual Participants Meeting won Thursday 10 May 2018, we will also be creating an additional Ethical Engagement Direction and Oversight Board.  We invite members to express interest for the available positions as per the other Direction and Oversight Boards

The Direction and Oversight Boards support the decision making of the NUS Services Board.

This year we are proposing the creating of a new, Ethical Engagement Direction and Oversight Board.  This will look across our work in Services to make sure we are always adhering to high ethical standards, involving students’ unions in this work, and working collectively to make a positive impact on the world around us.

The DOBs also guide the meetings of the cooperative enterprise units in encouraging a wide representation, the generation of new ideas, and to consider new initiatives.

This committee will be made up of:

  • 2 student officers, elected by the CEU
  • 3 student union staff, appointed by the Board
  • 2 directors, appointed by the Board
  • 2 external members, recommended by the CEU
  • The Company Chair ex officio

We're looking for 3 x SU Staff and 2 x SU Student Officers to fill the positions on this board. Any officers need to stand for election by completing the form here and any SU Staff interested should express interest by emailing boards@nus.org.uk Deadline to stand for election or express interest is 12noon on 5 June 2018.

This committee is required to make decisions and recommendations where appropriate and to make recommendations to the Services Board when necessary.

What happens at meetings?

The DOB generates ideas, provides advice, and engages with NUS Services Board, to extend the reach and impact of NUS’ ethical engagement work.

The committee is provided with updates in Ethical Engagement and may bring recommendations to the NUS Services Board.  The committee also considers recommendations and outputs from the relevant Cooperative Enterprise Unit.
