This is a hub for all of NUS’s work on education & student funding.
Our lobbying priorities are bringing back and extending Maintenance Grants, securing more money for further education and students studying in colleges, and restoring and extending non-repayable funding for healthcare students.
We submitted our priorities to government and released this statement in response to the 2020 Budget, announced March 11th.
The long term change that we want to see is much more likely to come through the Comprehensive Spending Review. This will set the funding priorities for the government for the next five years, and they have announced it is where they will respond to the Augar Review. This was a funding review which recommended, among other things, reinstating maintenance grants and more funding for further education.
The government has not yet set a date for the Comprehensive Spending Review, but once it has, we will be campaigning with students’ unions on our priorities and will need the support of students’ unions across the movement to be clear that it’s time to take action on student funding!
