NUS President Malia Bouattia will be appearing alongside the likes of Shami Chakrabarti, Caroline Lucas and Lilly Allen at an emergency demonstration on Whitehall to speak out against President Trump’s new draconian immigration measures and our Prime Minister's complicity with them.
Thousands are expected to attend a protest outside Downing Street tonight, just days after Donald Trump’s widely condemned ban on people from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the US.
The ban also includes Britons with dual nationality, like Olympian Sir Mo Farah, and also Iraq-born Conservative MP Nadhim Zahawi.
While other governments including Canada, France and Germany have spoken out against the move, Theresa May has come under scrutiny for her lack in doing so.
Other confirmed speakers for tonight’s event include:
- Baroness Shami Chakrabarti
- Mohammed Ateek (Syrian refugee)
- Ed Miliband MP
- Baroness Sayeeda Warsi
- Caroline Lucas MP
- Wail Qasim (Black Lives Matter)
- Tim Farron MP
- Mhairi Black MP
- Asad Rehman (Friends of the Earth)
- Lily Allen
- Clive Lewis MP
- Zrinka Bralo (Migrants Organise)
- Shappi Khorsandi (comedian)
- Bianca Jagger
- Talha Ahma (Muslim Council of Britain)
- Kate Hudson (CND)
- Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh MP
- Natasha Walter (Women for Refugee Women, Women's March)
The demonstration begins at 6pm tonight. More information is available on the Facebook event page.
There are also similar demonstrations opposing the #MuslimBan taking place elsewhere in the UK today.
