Students #CutTheCosts, saving £6 million at the Co-op with NUS extra

Our partnership with The Co-operative Food continues to be one of the most successful discounts available to students who are NUS extra card holders. With 10 per cent off in store, there are now approximately 100,000 students saving money each week at The Co-op.

Since the deal was brought in, students have managed to save £6 million at co-op stores and the NUS extra card now has 850,000 active card holders.

Richard Brooks, NUS Vice President (Union Development) said 'The costs of living as a student are astronomical. They’re making studying unbearable and the system inaccessible. Education is too important to let that happen – if education is suffering, society is suffering.

So as well as fighting for a better deal for students nationally, NUS works proudly with our partner organisations, through NUS extra and students’ unions' collective buying, to reduce costs for individuals as they study. We also have an active programme of auditing and advising how partners can make their operations more student-friendly and ethical. The Co-operative is a leading light in this regard. The UKs seven million students, including me, are very grateful for their continued support and… er… co-operation.'

This partnership is one of many great ways to inform students about the vast array of discounts available to them through the NUS extra card.
