Round up of NEC Meeting 4 | Thursday 25 February

On Thursday 25 February the National Executive Council met for the fourth time this year. At the meeting council members heard the reports of the President, Vice presidents, Liberation, Nations and Sections Officers.

The meeting was livestreamed and the recording will be available on the NUS youtube channel. Officers gave a short report on their work since December. Council members were then given the opportunity to ask questions of the officers and hold them to account. You can read the reports on the NEC Hub

The NEC approved the estimates for National Conference 2016.

The NEC debated motions to submit as their 1400 words to National Conference 2016. There were 8 Motions Submitted. A Priority ballot on these motions was held before the meeting.


4 Motions were sent to be debated at National Conference in the Following Order:

Motion 3: Cutting the costs of education to build a debt free future

Motion 1: Bilingual NUS UK.

Motion 4: Freedom of Information and the Green Paper

Motion 5: Students’ Unions and #RefugeesWelcome


NEC then debated policy that was submitted as motions by council members. There were 13 motions submitted and an additional 5 emergency motions submitted after the motions deadline. Motions were passed in this order:
