At the NUS Wales Welsh Language conference in Cardiff today, students have elected Ifan James as their Welsh Language Officer 2016/17.
The Welsh Language Campaign is the autonomous campaign for all students in Wales who self-define as Welsh speakers or learners. The campaign represents those students’ interests as part of NUS Wales and campaign locally and nationally on issues that affect them.
The role of the Welsh Language Officer is to act as the campaign’s figurehead, serving on a part-time basis for a year, and sitting on NUS Wales National Executive Committee.
Speaking after the election, Ifan said he was looking forward to the next year.
At the NUS Wales Welsh Language conference, students took part in a workshop on the Welsh Language campaign's FE charter, heard from Claire Roberts of ColegauCymru, and elected their leaders.
Those elected to the NUS Wales Welsh Language Campaign committee were:
- Steering Officer - Rhun Dafydd
- Committee member (Women's place) - Branwen Glyn
- Committee member (Open place) - Osian Wyn Morgan
- Committee member (Open place) - Liam Evans
Tomorrow, we move on to the last liberation conference of the week, the NUS Wales Women’s Campaign conference.
