Joni Alexander joins NUS Wales as its interim director, leading the organisation’s staff team and supporting its three full-time elected officers.
Joni returns to NUS Wales in this role after a career break to look after her young children. She previously led the organisation as its interim director in 2014-15.
Joni came to the third sector from a career as a journalist that she began in the USA, where she is from originally. Joni holds degrees in journalism from The University of Oklahoma and Cardiff University. More recently, she has been involved in Welsh charities UNA Exchange, as its chair, and Women Making a Difference, as its director.
Joni joins us at a crucial time, with major reforms underway throughout the education sector in Wales.
“I am pleased to be returning to lead the NUS Wales team as its interim director. NUS is an always-changing organisation that isn’t afraid to make change happen. At such a pivotal moment in Wales and the UK, it’s fantastic to be back helping students get the change they want.”
Welcoming Joni, NUS Wales President Gwyneth Sweatman said:
“I am thrilled that Joni Alexander is joining us today as Interim Director. She has vast experience, not least from her previous roles here at NUS Wales. I’m looking forward to working closely with Joni during the coming months as we campaign for strong students’ unions, better mental health support, better student transport, and better support for women students.”
