Emily 400x400

My name is Emily Beever and I am NUS Scotland Women's Officer for 2015/16.

Before my role at NUS Scotland I studied German and International Relations at the University of Aberdeen and then became a sabbatical officer for two years at Aberdeen University Students' Association. Firstly I held the position of President for Charities and Community, a fundraising and community outreach role, and last year I was Student President.

During my time as a sabbatical officer I focused on a variety of issues including student parents, intersectional women in leadership and making equality and diversity an institutional priority.

My priorities for the upcoming year include campaigns around liberation and learning; increased support for student nurses and mental health nurses; women in sport; and women in leadership. I will also be working closely on the Higher Education Governance Bill and increasing involvement in the Women's Campaign across Scotland.

I have a committee of four amazing activists: Shaakirah Iqbal, Genna Clarke, Jules Fitzgerald and Zoe Croy. We can't win on all of these issues alone. We want you to be at the forefront of driving this change - nationally and on your campuses.

If you want to get involved in the above campaigns, want me to visit your campus or would like support with your work, please get in touch with email at or you can find me on Twitter @EmilyBeever.

I look forward to smashing the patriarchy with you this year.
