Five Ideas… reasons to register for Sections Conference

Tuesday 19-01-2016 - 12:40

NUS Sections Conference is the head policy making body of International, Post-graduate, Mature and Part-time students. Delegates are elected from each local SU affiliated with NUS to represent their fellow students’ views on a national level by setting policy for the year ahead and electing your national representatives in this area. Here are just a handful of reasons why you should attend…

1. Build collaborations from across the UK

Whether it’s Postgrad, International or Mature & Part-Time, each section of the conference will be made up of representatives from across the UK. This will be a great opportunity to build connections and develop the influencing power your students’ union has to make important changes for students at your institution.

2. Share ideas and learn

One of the best things about conference is that it gives you the opportunity to share your ideas and learn about what is affecting other students across the UK. There will be workshops on lots of key issues and campaigns in your section. You might just find that someone already has the solution to something that’s affecting the students you’re representing.

3. Take part in some real life democracy

Whether it’s electing who is going to represent you for the next 12 months, taking part of the policy development process, or passing motions, NUS Sections Conference has got it all. Sections is a great opportunity to be part of the decision-making process at NUS and get the issues and campaigns your members care about on to the agenda.

4. Represent your union nationally

As a delegate to Sections Conference, you will be representing your union and all of its members. Not only is this a great opportunity to share and celebrate your successes with other unions, but each section will also be electing their national committee for the year. Any student from that section can run and it is the perfect opportunity to become more involved in the work NUS does.

5. Shape the work of NUS

Conferences are the main democratic forum of NUS and are a great opportunity for you to have your say on how we represent you. NUS is here to represent your views and interests and help you shape your education. Sections conference is a great chance to make sure your voice is counted and be part of national campaigning and activism!
