NUS Black Students’ Winter conference is the two day event for students of African, Arab, Asian and Caribbean descent. Delegates will have the opportunity to take part in a range of workshops and hear from key leaders within the Black community. Here are just a handful of reasons why you should attend...
1. Build your networks
The conference provides a valuable opportunity to meet other Black students from across the UK. This will be a great opportunity to build connections and develop the influencing power your students’ union has to make important changes for students at your institution.
2. Share ideas and learn
One of the best things about conference is that it gives you the opportunity to share your ideas and learn about what is affecting other Black students across the UK. There will be plenty of opportunity to learn about key issues and campaigns that the Black students’ campaign is working on. You might just find that someone already has the solution to something that’s affecting the students you’re representing.
3. Hear from inspirational speakers
On both days you will hear from a keynote speakers sharing their words of wisdom about their time either in the movement or campaigning for Black people in the UK / overseas. Previous events have hosted, Black MPs, community leaders and even representatives from the South African High Commission, so look out for updates on speaker announcements!
4. Take part in interactive workshops
As a delegate to Winter conference you will have the chance to learn from those leading the prominent campaigns pertinent to Black students’ across the UK. From liberating the curriculum, Black mental health to direction action campaigns, we have something for everyone and no stone is left unturned. We’ll run sequences of workshops across the two days so you’ll have the opportunity to attend a few over the course of the weekend. Look out for the agenda on the events page shortly so you can decide early on what ones you’d like to go to.
5. Enjoy excellent entertainment and food
Winter conference prides itself on providing stimulating events for delegates on the Saturday night, delegates will enjoy performances over a delicious meal the evening after the first day. With evening entertainment, and excellent food - this is a weekend you won’t want to miss!!
NUS Black Students’ Winter conference 2016 will be held at LSE Students’ Union from Saturday 26 – Sunday 27 November.
