Don’t miss your chance to register for Trans Conference!

Tuesday 08-01-2019 - 14:14

NUS Trans Conference 2019 will be taking place in Manchester on 30 – 31 January. It will be a space for making policy, sharing skills and nurturing important bonds across the membership. Here are six reasons why you should get registered and join us.

Register for Trans Conference this week.

Set the agenda for the years ahead
Conference is your chance to debate and vote on motions that set the direction of the campaign for the coming three years. The deadline for motions has passed, but you can familiarise yourself with which motions will be debated and get ready to participate!

Develop skills
Aside from the democracy, the agenda will feature sessions to help you learn, gain skills, and find out how to build on our campaign’s work back at your own campuses. We will be running workshops on decolonising gender and the trans students’ drug use with more to be confirmed - follow us on Twitter for updates on this.

Meet trans activists
Organising as a trans student on your campus can often feel isolating, but NUS Trans Conference is the largest democratic gathering of trans students in Europe. Through the programme and free time there will be plenty of opportunities to share experiences, best practice and make connections and friendships with each other.

Conference is a great time to find out what your elected committee members have been up to this year and hold them accountable for their work. At conference you’ll be able to meet the current committee and ask them questions informally or through the formal accountability processes.

Build an intersectional campaign

Fighting transmisogyny and racism are our priorities to build an inclusive Campaign. As well as featuring in workshops we are also making conference accessible for trans women and trans people of colour; groups identified as under-represented within the Campaign. We have created a travel bursary for delegates from these groups, apply by 15 January (the day before registration closes) for a chance to travel to Manchester for free.

The social
After dinner and the Trans Awards ceremony we will be holding Games Night at the venue for delegates to unwind during the evening. We have some board games but if there are particular games you would like to bring just let us know. There will also be some informal drinks at a local venue for those of you who fancy getting out and about in Manchester.

Whatever your reasons for coming to NUS Trans Conference, it's important to get yourself registered by 16 January.

We look forward to welcoming you to Manchester!
