Democracy and governance consultation now open

Wednesday 04-01-2017 - 12:33

A report outlining proposals for how to strengthen NUS' democracy and governance has been launched, and we want your feedback.

At National Conference 2016, delegates voted for a vision of a new NUS democracy. All our full-time officers committed to bringing forward a proposal in time for National Conference 2017.

Following a wide ranging review in consultation with students' unions and the Centre for the Study of Democracy we have developed a proposal for Corporate Governance and four proposals for Democratic Governance:

  1. Ensuring students and students' unions have access to and power over decisions affecting them
  2. Using inclusive, high quality debate to inform considered decisions
  3. Modernising our democracy to increase mass participation
  4. Accountable, effective, resourced and supported officer leadership

You can read the proposals in full here: Strengthening NUS Democracy and Governance

The group tasked with finalising the proposal that will be presented to Conference will meet on 31 January, and we want our members to provide feedback to inform this meeting. You can provide responses to the report's proposals here.
