#CutTheCosts: Leap into Action on 29 Feb

Wednesday 17-02-2016 - 15:17

2016 is a leap year and it's time for us to Leap into Action and #CutTheCosts for students.

29 February will shortly come around for the first time since 2012. For a small minority there will be celebrations - they can finally enjoy that birthday that comes just once in four years. For a larger majority there will be commiserations - an extra day of work to do, an extra days’ rent to pay, an extra day to fork out for food, an extra days’ bus fare to find, an extra day to heat your home.

Students’ unions are already working to get fairer fairs, end hidden course costs, cheaper gym membership and more reasonable rents. That’s why we’re coordinating our Leap Into Action day on the 29 February to take action all over the country.

We are particularly focusing on the cost of student transport and the hidden costs of academic courses: see our Fairer Fares and Hidden Course Costs briefing for more information.

For information on how you can take action on 29 February, see our Leap into Action guide.

You can also email us if you’d like to borrow one of our giant cardboard cut out Fairer Fares buses, or host our giant inflatable Dave the Pig on your campus.

The buses were hosted by Edge Hill SU on Tuesday, and will visit Leeds City College SU, Warwick SU, Leicester College SU, Wiltshire College SU and Brighton SU in the coming weeks.
