Wednesday 24-02-2016 - 16:02

The period of nominations for the position of NUS Vice President (Society and Citizenship) has closed and we can now announce the candidates standing for election.

The candidates for the position of NUS Vice President (Society and Citizenship), who will be elected during NUS NUS National Conference, are as follows:

Samayya Afzal

I’m the Women’s & Campaigns officer at the University of Bradford Union of Students and I have been the Society & Citizenship Zone rep on NEC for two years.

My time at my SU, volunteering on four NUS committees and my work on taking grassroots campaigns to the national stage has been an invaluable experience. I’m standing to be your next Vice President for Society & Citizenship to diversify our movement, and because I truly believe that NUS has the power to shape the radical change we need in society.

Chloe Schendel-Wilson

I have been President of the Students' Union at Bournemouth University for the past two years, and this year I was elected onto the NUS Union Development Zone. If my time in the student movement has taught me anything - it's about how powerful we are to really shape society for the better. I don't, however, believe that we are making the most of our full potential. I have spent the past two years working not only for, but with my students, to create real change. I'm standing because I now know that I am ready to do this nationally.

For the past two years I've had the pleasure of working tirelessly for LGBT+ students. It’s been a challenging & busy two years. Its seen UCAS do a U-turn on its gender binary titles, the Government do a U-turn on giving MSM the HPV vaccine saving around 2000 lives a year, & the first ever research published into the experiences of LGBT students in FE.

I'm asking for you to put your faith in me again, I've delivered on promises I made to LGBT+ Students, now I want to build on my successes & create a better society for all
