Candidates for NUS Vice President (Higher Education) announced

Wednesday 04-03-2015 - 14:01

The period of nominations for the position of NUS Vice President (Higher Education) has closed and we can now announce the candidates standing for election.

The candidates for the position of Vice President (Higher Education), who will be elected during NUS National Conference, are as follows:

Hattie Craig
A fighting, democratic free education movement

I'm a student and previous Education Officer at the University of Birmingham. I'm running for VPHE because to win free education we need an NUS leadership that has the courage and know-how to build a fighting movement rooted in a sustainable network of democratic unions, campus activist groups and local communities. I have spent the last four years fighting for justice on my campus and on a national level, blocking cuts and winning bursaries and the living wage for staff. I've also played a key role in organising mass action on a national level with demos and direct action.

Sorana Vieru
Liberation at the heart of education

Hi! I'm the Full-time Postgraduate Education Officer at Bristol Students’ Union, currently on a sabbatical from my PhD. I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Birmingham before moving to Bristol. I currently sit on NUS NEC and Higher Education Zone having been elected last year. I'm a member of the HEFCE steering group which reviews quality assessment nationally. As an officer I've won over £120k funding to widen access to my students’ union, reviewed personal tutoring provision and induction for postgraduate-taught students and campaigned for universal free higher education and fair pay for postgrads who teach.
