Unemployment at a record high with students facing increasingly more difficult circumstances in the labour market. A changing landscape in terms of students’ union governance and oversight. A call to demonstrate the impact and relevance of students’ unions and the challenge of extending new opportunities to students to be involved in societies, volunteering, sports, student media and student fundraising with a view to transform people’s lives. These are all pressing issues facing the Union Development Zone; we want you to shape our response.
It’s not just the issues that are immediately apparent, but the greater challenge is predicting the issues that will face us tomorrow and then preparing for it. Over Wednesday 31 October and Thursday 1 November, the Union Development Zone Conference will meet to debate, learn and plan around all of these issues.
Our Vice-President Union Development and the Zone Committee have divided the conference into six streams, which are:

As well as being the largest confernece, we also intend for this to be the most fun. Our gala dinner on Wednesday night will be in aid of BBC Children in Need, where for £1 per person, we want everyone to bring Hallowe'en themed fancy dress! So after a busy day of conference, let your hair down and share in the fun, whilst raising money for a great cause.
With a range of expert speakers and facilitators from NUS, students' unions, the education sector and beyond, the conference will only be a success if you're ready to come and engage. Whether it's debating policy or taking part in the workshops; we'll be sending material to read in advance to make sure your time at Zones is the best yet.
