Beyond the Market
Thursday 01 November 2012 11:30 - Friday 02 November 2012 13:30
The Palace Hotel, Manchester
A new fee regime with uncertain consequences. Unmanaged increases in private provision. An HE Bill, conspicuous by its absence. And universities unable to clearly articulate their own value beyond increasing the earning power of individuals.
It is in this environment that we, the NUS Higher Education Zone, invite you to debate and shape our policies and priorities for the year ahead, in Manchester on 1 and 2 November. This is a crucial event in the NUS calendar; it presents a real opportunity for you to feed into what NUS will work on, fight for and create in the coming year so that we can shape a higher education landscape that we can all be proud of.
We have assembled an exciting programme of workshops, speakers and debate for you to reflect on and enjoy, which will be enriched by the breadth of perspectives, backgrounds and experiences that we hope you will bring.
Our Vice-President (Higher Education) and National Conference policy has brought us to develop work in six areas.
-
The public value of education
-
Students as partners in their learning
-
Thriving, not surviving
-
New horizons for teaching and learning
-
Internationalisation
-
The anatomy of research
So that we can develop exciting and relevant policy on all six of these themes, we are asking you to select a particular area to work on for the duration of the conference. Whilst we will endeavour to grant everyone their first choice, it is important that all six areas receive equal attention so select second and third choices carefully when registering.
