Day 1: exhibition

The benefits to attending
Trade Conference and Exhibition 2012 includes the only trade show in the UK that is dedicated to the student market. The exhibition will feature over 150 suppliers, both current and new, giving you the opportunity to order fantastic on-the-day deals.

Who should attend?
The trade show is a must for anyone who has responsibility for ordering products or services for your union. This event provides opportunities to meet suppliers face-to-face; it’s a great way to establish working relationships that will benefit you in the future. Test new products, meet new suppliers and grab some great deals.

Keynote speaker

Chris Arnold is the founder of SYMPLE and FEEL, a specialist in ethical marketing. He was formally Creative Director of Saatchi & Saatchi. Chris is an acknowledged expert in creativity and how it applies to business. His presentation will explore the various ways to reignite the creativity we experienced as children.

1. Commercial – mature students

An update on the latest changes to licensing laws particularly the arrival of the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act, which is now in force. This will include EMROs and the Late Night Levy.

Kraft Foods Europe will share with you how it uses digital and social media to interact with your shopper. How are they making Kraft products fun for consumers as well as driving your sales? What have they explored, what is the future and how can you be part of it?

Based on extensive CGA and actual consumer data, the presentation will focus on the current market place including relevant trends among 18 to 24 year-olds. 3. Retail – planograms and compliance
Dale Lynskey from Mars Chocolate will be highlighting the main benefits of implementing planograms and the consumer behaviour science that forms the basis on which they are created. This session identifies 'hot spots' within the display, and shares some best practice suggestions for creating impulse purchases.

The concept of introducing brands to students through sampling is not new, but it is a key growth area, and we'd like to show you how you can get involved and make it work as well as possible for your union. We'll be highlighting the successes of voucher-led campaigns at the University of Sheffield, Goldsmiths, and the University of the West of England. We'll also talk through the licensed trade programme and using case study examples.

This training session is hosted by Blue Beetle who will focus on providing practical and effective tools, tips and techniques for your workplace. The Blue Beetle approach is to “work hard, play harder and learn more” and is an interactive session – a great deal of fun whilst driving all the messages home.
