Mair Rowlands was elected to Welsh Language Officer on 21 April 2011. Mair is also the president of Bangor's Welsh Student Union - UMCB.
"Hello, my name is Mair Rowlands and I’m the NUS Wales Welsh Language Officer.
Over the years there have been a great deal of campaign work within the Welsh Speaking Students’ Campaign movement to establish a Federal College for Wales and at long last we have the institution that all Welsh students rightfully deserve. The Welsh National College that’s opening in September 2011 is a very significant development of critical importance to Welsh medium Higher Education and we must ensure it continues to develop. My top priorities for the year will be to secure that students are represented on the College’s Academic Board and establish a committee of students in every university that feeds into the governing body. As a result of founding the Welsh National College, it’s also important to develop communication within the Welsh national student community. I would also like to raise awareness amongst non-Welsh speaking students from outside Wales about the Welsh Language and living in a bilingual country."
