Human rights activist Lydia Besong opened Society and Citizenship zone conference - she spoke bravely about her imprisonment and rape in Cameroon for opposing the political establishment.
Lydia is scheduled to be deported from the UK tomorrow morning, along with her husband Bernard.
Lydia is a successful playright who has written extensively on the treatment of asylum seekers in the UK, as well as on the political situation in Cameroon. Her new play about Cameroon's current President, Paul Biya, 'Down with the Dictator' is currently in production.
Lydia is extremely concerned about her safety if she is forced to return to Cameroon. She is likely to be in grave danger after publically criticising the Cameroon authorities.
You can read more about her story in this article from The Guardian.
