Guest blog from Sarah Addly, People and Planet Chair 11-12 and Sports Officer 10-12, Newman Students' Union
I hope you all had a lovely Christmas break, mine was filled with revision, writing assignments and starting a dissertation, the joys of being a part time officer. This means that the New Year’s healthy eating hasn’t begun yet either… Anyway, a bit more about me, I am currently studying sport and counselling and am Newman Students’ Union sports officer for the second year running. At the moment the Executive team is made up of 5 of us. I am also the Chair of People and Planet and Fitness Fun, as well as being one of the Executive trustees. It all helps to keep me out of trouble…
In the first week of February we will be having our refreshers week where we will be launching our ‘Be Inspired to be Healthier’ campaign. So in a nutshell, all the Executive officers will be going on healthy diets (I’m hoping not for the cabbage diet) and we'll be doing fruit swaps as well as highlighting healthier options in our canteen!
Go Green Week
So the second week of Feb brings Go Green Week. We are busy planning for events everyday; including an on-campus farm shop, which will help to tie in our healthy lifestyle campaign; we’re also having a green day, where we will give away seeds to students and we are even recycling books and giving the proceeds to charity! We are also aiming to get all students out of halls and down to the bar to save on energy one evening as well as the usual car share campaign.
So all in all it’s a busy, busy time at the moment.
That is all for now. I hope you all have a fantastic month and good luck to all of you that made New Year resolutions.
