We're sat in Urban Reef, looking out onto Boscombe beach and planning the localised Peace Day here at Bournemouth University. Tomorrow, the 21st of September marks International Peace Day, a day for friendship, benevolence and community. For us here, it was an undoubted certainty that we would mobilise students for the day, to demonstrate the importance of the annual event to form a coalition of students committed to delivering the message carried on Peace One Day.
We'll be at the beach, painting 'Peace Tees', playing football and celebrating our own community. There'll be music, fun and even a few big names! John Vinney, our Vice Chancellor will be pledging to the coalition on behalf of Bournemouth University, whilst the Student's Union Full Time Officers will join him in producing a plaque to permanently signify the event in BU and Peace One Day history.
This is just the start, Jesse has founded the POD @ BU society, which will continue to share and strengthen the message of peace. Local action is key to promoting peace on any scale, be it local, national or international. We're committed to promoting Peace One Day and its aims. We hope every University will be holding its own peace event to strive for a global coalition.
In Peace.
Love Jesse, Leroy and John
