Following their annoucement of a review of the future of all 'universal benefits' including free tuition for Scottish students, the Scottish Labour Party called a debate in the Scottish Parliament on this issue on October 3rd.
NUS Scotland submitted a briefing to all MSPs ahead of this debate highlighting the commitment made by 87% of MSPs during the election to rule out fees and urging the Scottish Parliament to keep their word.
The briefing also explains the damaging impacts of fees on widening access for students from poorer backgrounds and on social mobility and called on the Scottish Parliament and Scottish Government to come up with more progressive solutions for the future of Scotland.
