Welcome to the third in our series of quarterly newsletters focusing on issues in higher education, kindly supported by NASUWT, the teachers’ union. We are delighted to take postgraduate students as the focus for this newsletter, marking a fast-growing area of work for NUS.

This is a timely issue, marking the current review of postgraduate education led by Professor Adrian Smith at the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills and NUS will be working to ensure that postgraduate needs are firmly on the agenda.

As part of NUS’ recent Governance Review we have invested in supporting postgraduate students, who make up almost a quarter of all HE students.

NUS ran its first National Postgraduate Conference in June, electing a new NUS National Postgraduate Committee and appointing a member of staff devoted to postgraduate students. Copies of this HE Focus have been sent to every higher education students' union.
