Neighbourhood

It's Our Neighbourhood Too!

We play a vital part in our neighbourhoods. We need to ensure that we do all we can to be good neighbours and play our part as citizens. However, with these responsibilities come rights. We have the right to choose where we want to live and to be able to access affordable and good quality housing that meets our needs. We have a right to not be made a scapegoat. There needs to be a recognition that there is no one ‘type’ of student and all students - no matter where they live - are part of a community.

NUS’ Position

Resources

The issue of quota’s for student housing is a complex issue. If you would like NUS to produce any resources to aid your unions work please contact us here.

Lobbying

  • Parliamentary Update – A brief look at developments and how you can lobby your local MP on this issue.
  • Guide on Lobbying your MP – A guide to contacting your local representative and making a good impression. This has all the information you need to get your MP behind our cause.
  • Who’s your MP – Find out who your local representative is and contact them about their views on limits to student housing.
  • Winning the Arguments - A look at some of the key discussions that you might have with those in favour of introducing limits to student housing.

Community Tools

Planning and Partnerships – A briefing that identifies key partnerships that students’ unions should be looking to develop, and ideas on how to strategically build your profile in the local community.
