The Higher Education Policy Insititute has published the latest edition of its regular report on Higher Education Supply and Demand to 2020 These reports seek to collate available information about patterns of higher education study in order to project likely trends in the future.  Several of the findings have relevance to mature and part-time students.

Firstly, the report finds that increasing numbers of accepted students have no formal qualifications, as measured by UCAS tarriff points.  The authors report that there is little data on the attributes of these students, but they believe it to be a reasonable supposition that a large proportion of these will be mature students seeking a second chance at higher education and whose work experience qualifies them for entry.  The growth of such students will place greater demand on higher education supply.

It also found that demand for part-time HE has increased over the last ten years and the authors believe this is set to continue.
