Sexual Health on the Agenda

LGBT Sexual Health has been a policy of our campaign for a long time, but nothing effective has been done with regard to this issue, so I took it upon myself to make it a priority for the year ahead and got to work on it straight away.

We need change in Wales and we as a campaign will be calling on the National Assembly to make this happen. There are community/local pharmacies operating all around Wales, including the rural areas, and are used by many members of our students’ unions. The Assembly wants to make changes to ensure that these pharmacies can offer a wide range of services to the general public.

OPPORTUNITY!!

The idea is to establish services at these pharmacies where LGBT sexual health information would be readily available for all to use, even those people in the rural areas where many of our campuses are located, who currently have to travel to a major town to access such information and resources.

In order to move this forward we have submitted evidence to a National Assembly for Wales committee regarding this issue. We also had a meeting with Welsh Government staff where this was also raised; we are awaiting the outcome so that we can respond!

This is a huge step, for not only LGBT sexual health in Wales, but also the Campaign becoming recognised in the National Assembly for Wales and Wales in general. I will continue to update you on everything that is going on.

If anyone would like any specific information or any queries or questions about what we have submitted etc. then please do not hesitate to email me at ian.morgan@nus-wales.org.uk

Five ideas: communicating your impact

The student movement exists to improve the lives of students and recognises the impact that learning and development have on wider society. In order to achieve this we need to challenge and change issues that threaten the ability of students to succeed in further and higher education. However, to influence change we need to mobilise students and other supporters.
