Yesterday (19/05/2011), NUS Wales held Wales LGBT Conference at Glamorgan University Students’ Union and we're happy to announce that Ian Morgan was elected to NUS Wales LGBT Officer.
On being elected NUS Wales LGBT Officer, Ian said:
"Hi, My name's Ian Morgan, a Politics and American Studies student at Swansea University and I've been elected to be the NUS Wales LGBT Officer for the academic year 2011-2012.
Over the next year I intend to unify the LGBT campaign here in Wales. It is clear that over the past year that the LGBT campaign has been represented well in individual institutions but now I intend to bring it all together through NUS Wales. The potential to influence policy changes and make a difference to the lives of LGBT people of Wales can happen easier with our devolved government and I intend to fight to ensure that these changes happen.
Further to this, with more specific training, support and the resources to go forward I want to make sure that each institution has representation geared to the needs of LGBT students which will ensure that all have the chance for an institution of equality and the opportunity to require institution support us in the campaigns that we organise.
Together I want to build the campaign up and put our voice on a national level, ensuring that the Welsh LGBT voice is seen as just as important. But mostly, I'm an officer for you, I want to help each institution with their LGBT societies, whether it be answering questions, going to events or even giving talks and workshops, I am the NUS Wales LGBT officer elected by you, for you."
