NUS National Executive Committee member Rachel Wenstone has been elected NUS Vice President Higher Education by a wafer-thin margin.
Rachel pipped Sophie Richardson to the position with 257 votes to 230 in the final round after Michael Chessum was eliminated.
In the first round of voting, Rachel totalled 202 votes, with Sophie on 168 and Michael on 134, while RON picked up four votes.
Rachel is currently a member of the NUS national executive committe block of 15, and was formerly Communications and Internal Affairs Officer at Leeds University Union.
Running under the slogan 'Fighting for the real value of our education', Rachel focused her campaign on the fight for fair access and retention.
Following the result, she said: "I am so grateful to everyone who has helped me over the last four or five months. I cannot wait to work with some of the most incredible officers I have met, and to get the campaign going."
