Based in Canterbury, Kent Union is the representative body for students of the University of Kent and provides wide-ranging services for its members at campuses across Kent and on the Continent. The Union is a charity with annual revenues of £10 million and 650 staff. Our services range from a nightclub to a nursery, employment agency to retail outlets and a welfare advice centre to 250 sports clubs and societies. Included in the Sunday Times 100 Best Not-For-Profit Organisations To Work For over the last four years, we believe we are one of the best students’ unions in the U.K.  The UMSA Partnership is a unique set up in that it provides student union services to students from the universities of Canterbury Christ Church, Greenwich and Kent studying at the Medway campus. The partnership means that we have close working relationships with each of the students’ unions (Christ Church Students’ Union, Students’ Union University of Greenwich & Kent Union) to ensure the students at Medway have access to services and are represented effectively.

At Canterbury (Kent Union aspect of the post) the post-holder will organise and implement the democratic meetings at Kent Union, including union council and the democracy zones and AGM ensuring effective promotion and increasing participation.  The post-holder will be responsible for supporting all elected officers in the research, planning and promotion of their campaigns.

At Medway the post holder will work as part of the Universities at Medway Students Associations (UMSA) team and will be responsible for organising and implementing the forum meetings. The post holder will also be responsible for providing training and support for the academic reps from each institution and providing general support to the sabbatical officers from each partner union on Medway focused issues and campaigns.

You will have a good understanding of best practice in student representation and a demonstrable record of working with, supporting and empowering volunteers. You will have an understanding of the current issues affecting higher education institutions and students and a strong commitment to working in a democratic and membership organisation.
