Lead and Change Further Education: Midlands and the North

This introductory course aims to enable officers to gain skills, knowledge and confidence to effective student leaders in further education.

The course will take delegates on a journey to reflect on their own responsibilities and understanding of leadership, to consider the impact of working collectively both locally and nationally, as well as understanding how to influence educational policy to drive quality and improvement in teaching and learning.  

Who is it for?

Full time FE officers from affiliated students' unions and part time FE officers from affiliated students' unions.

Delegates who attend the course will:

  • Reflect on why education, and the Further Education (FE) sector in particular, is important
  • Review strategies to widen participation in Union and Learner Voice activities
  • Explore positions of power and privilege with regard to mobilising and empowering other students
  • Be introduced to Authentic Leadership
  • Engage with NUS democratic process
  • Develop campaigning skills and tools to address local education and community issues
  • Consider next steps for student leaders during the academic year

The deleagte fee for this event is £79 +VAT and includes course fee, training materials as well as refreshments throughout the event. We will provide a minibus services to/from Manchester Piccadilly and the venue; the bus will leave train station at 9am and it will pick up form the venue at 17:15, the journey is approximately 10min.
