How to engage your staff to cut carbon, boost morale and drive efficiency

Speakers include:

Dax Lovegrove, Director of Sustainability & Innovation at Kingfisher PLC

Lauren Rowe, ‎Sustainability Engagement Coordinator at Unite Students

The event will be facilitated by Charlotte Bonner and Quinn Runkle, both from NUS’ award winning Department for Sustainability. They collectively have over 15 years’ experience years transforming organisations through staff engagement, behaviour and cultural change.

Overview:

In a climate where there is upwards pressure on productivity and output, but often a downward pressure on budget, funding and support for sustainability endeavours across the UK are being limited. In this context, how do public sector organisations, NGOs, and businesses engage staff, build strong relationships within the community, and save money through reducing their environmental impact?

Over the past 10 years, NUS has been running innovative and impactful staff engagement programmes in order to normalise sustainability and provide students with a brighter future. We have a wealth of experience and expertise we’d like to share, supported by a range of speakers from across the private, public and third sectors, and are therefore offering this free one-day workshop on improving staff engagement through sustainability.

Key Points of Discussion Include:

  • What is the importance of behaviour change in the workplace?

  • How does staff engagement improve organisational sustainability?

  • How can you customise communications to best target different members of staff/parts of your organisation?

  • How do social change theories apply within a work environment?

  • What impact can engaging with local colleges and universities have on your staff?

  • Who do you need on board to run effective engagement programmes?
How can you communicate with both internal and external stakeholders to build engagement?

  • What tools can be used to monitor and evaluate your impact?

The Event:

Participants will develop a strong understanding of behaviour change in relation to sustainability in public sector organisations, NGOs, and business.

The morning will focus on benefits of behaviour change programmes in relation to staff engagement and environmental targets; social change theory; and tailoring your engagement strategy. It will feature two case studies of sustainability in practice.

Following a light networking lunch, the afternoon will feature communications strategies, monitoring and evaluation, and engagement from key stakeholders.
