The introductory course aims to enable officers to gain skills, knowledge and confidence to be effective student leaders in Further Education.

The course will take delegates on a journey to reflect on their own responsibilities and motivation to be a student leader, to encourage local and national collaboration, and to provide a safe learning environment in which to develop skills and understanding on how to influence educational policy to drive quality and improvement in teaching and learning.

By the end of the course, delegates will:

  • Explore privilege and power with a view to enabling and empowering other students to engage in their education
  • Be introduced to NUS as a national student movement including how to engage with its democratic processes
  • Develop campaigning skills and explore campaigning methods and tools
  • Be able to identify important relationships and be confidence to build new partnerships
