Student Media Summit 2010
Thu 02 Sep 2010 12:00 - Fri 03 Sep 2010 17:00
Human Rights Action Centre, Amnesty International HQ; London
NUS and Amnesty International UK are delighted to invite you to a two-day summit for all those involved in student media.
In previous years the meetings and workshops that comprise this event have provided an excellent opportunity for student media practitioners to improve their skills and network with high-profile professionals.
This year’s workshops and speeches will be delivered by some of the most influential people in British media today - including professionals working in all areas of media, from journalists, to press officers, to experts in media law and advertising revenue.
We'll also be launching the first Student Human Rights Reporter of the Year Award. You'll learn all about the award, the amazing selection of prizes we're putting together and details of how to enter.
The format of the two days is as follows:
Day 1 - Issues for Student Journalists - Midday to 7pm
An opportunity to hear from leading practitioners about the issues that affect today's journalists and to generate content for your own outlets.
Experts and professionals will discuss journalistic and human rights issues in speeches and panel debates and you will have a chance to field your own questions and to conduct one- on-one interviews with some of the speakers.
Day 2 - Workshops - 10am to 5pm
Choose from a series of workshops taught by experts in the field and helping improve your editorial and journalistic skills.
Sessions will include:
- Students Media and the Law
- New Media
- Interview Skills
- Reporting on Campus
- Advertising Revenue
- Writing for the Web
There will also be plenty of opportunity for networking and informal socialising on both days.
The deadline for registration is 5pm on Friday 27th August.

The event is open to anyone involved in student media, however places are limited and we reserve the right to limit the numbers of attendees from any one institution or publication. There is a £5 charge per person to register for the event to help cover costs.
