Strategic Support Unit Resource Hub

Welfare and community

Welfare and comunity issues have always been important to the student movement - and their job has never been harder to do. Complex problems will give rise to difficult decisions in determining priorities, balance and the needs of different student groups, and challenging damaging behaviours and attitudes. In this brand new course, specifically designed for welfare and community officers, we aim to give officers in these roles the chance to explore the essential issues, and gain the key skills, knowledge and networks they need to address them in the year ahead.

Who is it for:

  • Welfare officers of HE affiliated unions
  •  Education and Welfare officers of HE affiliated unions
  •  Community officers of HE affiliated unions
  •  Liberation officers of HE affiliated unions
  •  Equality and diversity officers of HE affiliated unions

Learning outcomes:

By the end of this course, delegates will have:

  • An understanding of the context in which welfare and community officers work in
  •  Consideration of their prorities for the year ahead and the other challenges that they will deal with
  •  The skills and tools to lead, persuade and influence those in power
  •  An opportunity to attend interactive workshops delivered by key experts
  •  A chance to test some of the skills and knowledge they have gained
  •  A chance to create a support network with other officers for the year ahead

NUS Training team

All trainers who deliver on this course have a wealth of knowledge and expertise in welfare and community issues with the Higher Education sector and many years of experience of welfare and community policy and practice, as well as the student movement.
