Welcome to NUS Scotland. My name is Robin Parker and, as President, I head up the 12 other executive officers who lead the organisation.

As a movement we win so much for our members. Our 2011 election campaign, Reclaim Your Voice, resulted in over 87% of current Scottish Parliament members committing to ruling out tuition fees, protecting college and university places, and improving student support.

In 2011/12 we ran a huge campaign in the face of proposed college cuts, Our Future, Our Fight, which sent 80,000 e-mails to MSPs and mobilised thousands of students across Scotland. The result? The government reversed their decision, putting money back in to colleges – including £11.4 million in bursaries.

After years of campaigning a tenancy deposit scheme has been introduced to protect rent deposits from unscrupulous landlords, and we’ve secured the best student support package in the UK for higher education students, with huge increases for the poorest.

Together these wins are the foundations for winning on our priority campaign this year –Unlock Scotland’s Potential – aiming to improve Scotland’s (worst in the UK!) record on access to university for students from poorer communities, making sure access to education is based on potential, not background.
