NUS-USI President Adrianne Peltz has stated that government here must act to ensure that people from Northern Ireland applying to study elsewhere in the UK do not have to pay any more than they would if they were studying here.

NUS-USI has launched a new survey on Education Maintenance Allowance at their conference in Enniskillen this week. NUS-USI is campaigning to protect EMA as it believes that any cut to it would hit students from lower income backgrounds very hard and many people would be forced to quit their studies to earn money to help them make ends meet.

Adrianne Peltz has been re-elected as NUS-USI President following an election at NUS-USI’s Annual Conference at the Killyhevlin Hotel in Enniskillen today. Adrianne has been President of NUS-USI since last year.

Monday and Tuesday (16 and 17 April) sees NUS-USI’s Annual Conference taking place at the Killyhevlin Hotel in Enniskillen. Motions up for discussion include the importance of maintaining student support funds in the face of the potential abolition of the Department for Employment and Learning, and the need for further pressure to be placed on the Health Minister to end the ban on gay men donating blood.

Defend EMA seeks to build a coalition of further and higher education students and supporters to ensure that the most disadvantaged continue to receive support to stay in education past the age of 16.
