Course organisation and management underpins the entire academic experience. If courses are managed and organised well, students are enabled to concentrate on their academic experience. If a course has poor organisation and management, students are distracted and face unnecessary obstacles to learning effectively.
Course organisation and management has been consistently highlighted as an area of concern for students, and is the second-lowest scoring category in the National Student Survey. Only 72 per cent of students agreed that their course was 'well organised and running smoothly' in the 2011 NSS.

NUS Charter on Course Organisation and Management
NUS has developed a Charter on Course Organisation and Management which sets out ten key principles for high-quality course organisation and management, aiming to start the conversation about this vital issue and help direct students' unions and institutions to the specific areas of concern within organisation and management.

HE Focus: Course Organisation and Management
As a companion to the charter, NUS has dedicated its ninth edition of HE Focus to the issue of Course Organisation and Management. You can find articles on how this issue effects different types of students, some examples of solutions to universities' timetabling problems, and a case study of improving course organisation and management through an engagement and empowerment agenda.
