Ways you can shape NUS at Conference without being a Full Time Officer

Monday 20-02-2017 - 16:30

There are 29 positions up for election at National Conference 2017 - six of which are Full Time Officer roles. But how much do you know about the other 23 voluntary committee positions? Here’s some more information about how these roles are important in shaping the direction of NUS and why you should apply!

Block of 15

National Conference elects 15 representatives to the National Executive Council

Members of this group, known as the ‘Block of 15’, are responsible for discussing and debating the key issues that affect students nationally.

In this role you'll be responsible for consulting the membership and being representative of their views in discussions and debates. Block of 15 scrutinise and review the work of the zones, National President and the sub committees to make sure they are meeting the strategic political aims of NUS.

Nominations are open and close on 1 March 2017 at 12 noon.

Student trustees

National Conference elects three student trustees to sit on the NUS UK Board for a term of two years.

Board Trustees provide scrutiny, guidance, support and expertise to ensure a sound, healthy and legally compliant organisation.

Nominations are open and close on 1 March 2017 at 12 noon.

Democratic Procedures Committee

National Conference elects members to the Democratic Procedures Committee (DPC), which ensures the smooth running of Conference and the policy process.

The DPCs role is to be politically neutral and to ensure that the National Conference is run fairly and in accordance to the Rules and Articles of NUS.

Nominations are open and close on 1 March 2017 at 12 noon.

Anyone who is a student or elected sabbatical officer at a students’ union guild or association affiliated to NUS can stand for election and we encourage you to think about standing for these great opportunities to represent students nationally.

More information, role profiles and nomination forms can be found on the National Conference hub. If you have any queries about elections, please address these to NUS’ Chief Returning Officer by emailing governanceteam@nus.org.uk

National Conference 2017 takes place at the Brighton Centre from Tuesday 25 – Thursday 27 April. Registration is now open and you can book your place here!
