Last year we reviewed and re-designed Lead and Change, our flagship training programme for sabbatical officers. We're continusly improving this programme and know that staff are key to this. We'd like to invite staff who support or organise officer inductions to NUS for a one day development session.
At NUS, we strive to make continuous improvement to the Lead and Change programme, and we know that staff are key to this. Students’ Union staff have asked NUS to involve them in the development of Lead and Change, and to share more detail about the programme so that it complements existing students’ union officer induction.
We would like to invite key staff who support or organise officer inductions to NUS for a one day development session. On the day staff will share officer induction programmes, feed into Lead and Change 2016, learn about the structure of the Lead and Change programme and how it can complement your induction programmes, and lastly we will design a session together that will work for your Students’ Union to consolidate your officers learning over the summer.
We hope that by the end of the event you will have gained:
- An understanding of Lead and Change 2016, it’s structure and what your Officers will experience on the course
- Input into Lead and Change 2016
- Shared knowledge of Officer Induction programmes across the movement
- Ideas for your in-house Officer Induction programme
- A design for a session that will support your Union in consolidating your Officers learning from your induction programme and Lead and Change 2016
We will be holding two events on the 18 March 2016 and 11 April 2016 at the NUS London Office. The event will begin at 11am and finish at around 4pm.

11am – Welcome and Housekeeping
11.15am – Induction Programmes
In this session we will map out your current induction programme, alongside your peers and NUS. We will then share ideas, knowledge and structures strengthening what currently exists in your SU and in NUS.
12.45pm – Introducing Lead and Change
We will explore the context and changes Lead and Change has undergone over the last 2 years, the structure of the programme and open up discussion on how you can feed into the courses.
1.15pm – Lunch
2.15pm – Challenging Content
From recent feedback it is clear that Students’ Unions would like to explore ways that they might deliver challenging topics in Officer Induction, such as staff relationships. Bring a topic to this session that you find challenging and we will explore as a group the role NUS plays in delivering this content, what support we can offer to you, and how you deliver this content in your Unions.
3:00pm – Designing your Activities
Following from the last session, we will explore different activities that we can share and take back to your Unions to help consolidate learning that your Officers will gain over the summer Induction period.
